Lion Ruth Lyle

Governor of District 1-D

2012-2013

District Governor, Lion Ruth Lyle, and her husband, Lion Tom Lyle, are members of the Prophetstown Lions club. DG Ruth officially became a Lion in 1993 but has participated in Lions activities since Lion Tom joined the organization in 1967.

Both DG Ruth and Lion Tom are career teachers so it is no surprise they take a great deal of interest in young people.  The Leo and Quest programs are of special interest to Gov. Ruth.

Gov. Ruth is looking forward to meeting the Lions of District 1D.  She will strive to follow the good examples of our past governors as she represents the district at the state level.  She welcomes your contacts and will do her best to assist the clubs of the district.

Our Foundation has made some significant changes in the 2012 camp program. Strictly for financial reasons our Foundation has relocated our northern camp site from Camp Reynoldswood in Dixon to Camp Henry Horner and Camp Duncan. Both camps are near Ingleside, Illinois. (Please see maps for directions to the camp locations.)  By moving the northern camp to the new facilities our Foundation is able to save approximately $8,000.00. Our camping expenditures for 2011 were $279,000 and the budget for the 2012 camping sea-son is $272,099.00.

We will be using Camp Duncan this year for the Helen Keller Camp because Camp Henry Horner was already booked for that week. However, in 2013, Camp Henry Horner will be used exclusively for all camps held in the northern 1/3 of the state.

The great news for camp is Camp Lions was fully funded by the Lions of Illinois Foundation Adopt-A-Camper program in 2011. That was the first year the Adopt-A-Camper fully financed the Camping program without financial assistance from the Candy Day Fundraising Program. That was a tremendous step for the camping program. We are expecting the Adopt-A-Camper program to fully fund the camping campaign again this year if all the Lions Clubs in Illi-nois support the Adopt-A-Camper program. Supporting the Adopt-A-Camper
program will free up the donations collected by Candy Day so we can better support the other 12 programs and services our Foundation provides for citizens of Illinois with the Candy Day donations.

Last year District 1-D sent 2 youth campers to East Bay Camp outside Bloomington and 5 youth campers to Camp Reynoldswood. There were 20 adult campers (Helen Keller Camp) from our District who attended camp at Camp Reynoldswood last year for a total of 27 campers from our District.

Last year District 1-D contributed $17,617.00 to the Adopt-A-Camper program. We sent 27 youth and adults to camp. Our District contributed approximately $653.00 toward each camper from our District to attend camp. However, it cost approximately $765.00 to send a camper to camp. We fell short of fully funding the campers from our District to attend camp. That meant other Districts around the state had to pick up the slack our District did not cover.

Let’s work real hard this year to increase our Adopt-A-Camper program to meet and “exceed” the expenses necessary to send our youth and adults to camp. To meet the cost of sending 27 campers to camp would be approximately $20.655.00. Let’s see if we can meet that goal for our District. As of 3/30/2012 our District has contributed $7,448.00 so we have a ways to go to meet our $20,655.00 to fund all our campers.
